You’ve come to the correct place if you too have been personally harmed by the Wednesday series—specifically, if you need to stream season 2 of the show on Netflix immediately. TL;DR: It would be an understatement to say that the Addams Family spin-off has shot to the top of the popularity charts, and Netflix is well aware of this. Here comes the streamer formally declaring that Wednesday will return for a second season!
Discover everything there is to know about Wednesday season 2—including the status of a possible Lady Gaga appearance—by means of some good ol’ digging.
It’s official: Wednesday will most definitely return for a second season! Netflix used this incredible announcement video to tweet confirmation of the news:
Before the announcement arrived, Deadline reported that the streamer intended to renew Wednesday for season 2 in 2023, which is exactly what transpired. Deadline reports that Netflix’s executives were *and* “scouting locations for the next chapter of the series,” in addition to “actively searching for writers to join the writers’ room,” which made the renewal seem inevitable. The stars and creators of the show were very interested in doing a second season of the show. Co-showrunner Miles Millar spoke with TVLine about continuing the series, saying, “We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles…I believe that Catherine [Zeta-Jones] is a classic Morticia. The show also depends on Wednesday’s and Morticia’s relationship, and the therefore it’s significant that Wednesday is attempting to carve out a life for herself apart from the family.
Furthermore, prior to the formal renewal, Netflix’s dark drama’s co-creator and executive producer Alfred Gough revealed, “Miles [Millar] and I are talking among ourselves about a possible follow-up.” There is undoubtedly more to discover in the Addamses’ universe. Alfred continued by saying that, similar to season 1, there are plans to include Wednesday’s family members in a few episodes, but Wednesday will always be the major emphasis.
Jenna even expressed her personal thoughts and expectations for season 2. The performer said bluntly, “I kind of want [Wednesday] to be darker,” in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in November 2022. She then expressed her wish that the character wouldn’t “play things so safe” in upcoming episodes. According to Jenna, “she has a lot of lines about saving the school and doing whatever, but her main motivation with the monster is of a competitive nature.” “Man, how the heck is this guy doing this?” Rather than a conventional hero, I believe I want it to go in an antihero direction.
Regretfully, there is no formal announcement regarding the cast of Wednesday season 2. But because we know you’re wondering, here’s everyone from season 1 who could be back.
What about the well-known new faces we’ll be seeing in season two? Steve Buscemi and Thandiwe Newton are scheduled to feature in the show, Variety recently learned, though the specifics of their roles are still being kept under wraps. 👀
Subsequently, Netflix unveiled a few more teasers as well as three brand-new cast members: Thandiwe Newton as Dr. Fairburn, Jonana Lumley as Grandmama, Steve Bucemi as Barry Dort, and Billie Piper as Capri. But they also unveiled the remainder of the cast in a video and a press statement.
Along with Bucemi and Piper, the new series regulars will be Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill, Lord of Misrule), Owen Painter (Tiny Beautiful Things, The Handmaid’s Tale), and Noah Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime, Park Avenue), though details of their personas are still being worked out.
Thandiwe is joined by Christopher Lloyd (Addams Family, Back to the Future), Joanna Lumley (Fool Me Once, Absolutely Fabulous), Frances O’Connor (The Missing, The Twelve), Haley Joel Osment (The Kominsky Method, Somebody I Used to Know), Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries, Scream) and Joonas Suotamo, as new guest stars.
Notably Percy Hynes White, Jamie McShane and Naomi J Ogawa are not coming back for the show’s second season.
A collaboration between Mother Monster and Wednesday would be extremely memorable; but, at this time, any rumors about Lady Gaga joining Wednesday are firmly in the realm of rumors.
Nevertheless, Gaga showed her appreciation for the show when TikTokers started incorporating her 2011 song “Bloody Mary” into dances inspired by Wednesdays. Jenna thought this was hilarious and found it amazing that Gaga even knew her own work.
“A long time ago, I worked with a hairdresser who used to work with her. A few years prior, I had seen Lady Gaga perform live in Boston, and she had recorded a video for me saying, ‘Hey Jenna, hey! It was a really, really nice video, and I heard you’re a fan,” Jenna said to Variety at the 2023 Golden Globes.
“Seeing her perform the dance now was kind of one of those moments where you acknowledge that life changes really, really fast and it’s really crazy,” the woman continued. “I doubt she even remembers or even knows who I was back then.”
